Alternate Cover: Manga for Comics Fans

24 06 2008

Frustrated with how some people call themselves Manga fans or Comics fans and then never the twain shall they meet, I have taken it upon myself to recommend some manga with crossover appeal. Next week, the same, but in reverse.

Micro Mart #1009 - How to Start a Blog

24 06 2008

Latest issue of Micro Mart (on sale for the next 2 days!) has an article by me about blogging. It’s pretty superficial, being aimed at people who might want to start their own but don’t really know how to do it. It’s not a “how to install wordpress” thing. Part of my attempts to do something a little different from the usual reviews of plugins and software!

Oh, there’s also a contribution to a communal article about “favourite computer news stories” - I wrote about the legend of Atari’s buried ET cartridges!

3 x DoG updates

18 06 2008

This week I’ve got a cavalcade of Den of Geek updates appearing, including:

Alternate Cover: Spider-Man stories we’d rather forget
Futurama: The Beast with a Billion Backs DVD review
The Incredible Hulk, Xbox 360 review

And again!

18 06 2008

This time for Kick Ass #3. They didn’t exactly choose the most elegant sentence (even I had trouble understanding what I meant when I read it back) but at least they recognised that it was positive.

The full press release is under the cut. If anyone reading this would like their own quotes, I’d like to make it fully clear that my newly-credible endorsements can be easily bought. With money. Papa needs a new pair of shoes (all joking aside, I really do).

One of my CBR Reviews…

12 06 2008

…was quoted in a Marvel Press Release! Not exactly a massive deal, but no writer can deny that it’s nice to see your work getting some recognition/appreciation, even if it is just for marketing purposes. (Plus, this is probably the closest I’ll ever get to being published by Marvel ;-)

It’s not really the collected edition jacket/cover-quote I’m aiming for, but it’s a start! Press release is beneath a cut, because god knows you don’t need to see advertising from me. Read the rest of this entry »

Alternate Cover: The Incredible Hulk Companion

9 06 2008

This week’s column takes advantage of my vast and pointless knowledge of Hulk comics. Part-satire, part-geekery, this article is a set of ESSENTIAL facts designed to be read out during the watching of “The Incredible Hulk” that will make the experience of viewing the movie as educational as it is entertaining! Guaranteed to alter your popularity forever!

One to Watch, 4Talent Magazine

6 06 2008

A comp copy of the rather chunky 4Talent Magazine Issue #9 hit my doormat today, containing a piece I wrote based on an interview with Mat Heywood and Lihee Avidian of MonkeyWitch, conducted in the windy, cold outdoor area of a Spanish Cafe somewhere in Ladbroke Grove in the middle of February. The piece is part of the “one to watch” feature spotlighting new and upcoming creative types.

4Talent magazine is fairly hard to find on the shelves, but I believe it’ll be available in Borders and is well worth the £5 it’ll cost you for a copy (and would be even if I wasn’t in it!) You can also buy it at the 4Talent Magazine website for £2.50 postage on top, but then it is less effort that way.

Ultimate Origins #1 Review

3 06 2008

I won’t post a link to every CBR review I write, obviously, but since this is an advance, featured review, I figured I’d give it a shout out. Kevin Church (of Beaucoup Kevin fame) does a second take on the issue - and, for anyone wondering, since the comic’s not out until Wednesday, it is a spoiler-free review.

Ultimate Origins #1 Review

I possibly scored it a LITTLE highly, but what can I say? I’m a bit of a Bendis nerd.

Lost Season 4 Finale Review

2 06 2008

Well, I wasn’t sure if I’d manage it, but I’ve now reviewed every episode of Lost this series. My finale write up was far less enthusiastic than most, but that’s probably because I’ve become incredibly good at predicting where the show’s going after 12 weeks of closely examining each episode. Ah well! Same time next year for Season 5?

Micro Mart #1006 - 10 Great Greasemonkey Scripts

2 06 2008

My 4th feature for Micro Mart, available on shelves until Wednesday and priced only £2. I will no doubt put a scan up after the requisite 3 months have passed, but I encourage you all to go check me out in print. This article is about the Greasemonkey scripts I think are indispensible, and I tested a LOT of crap ones to find them, so you’d better all appreciate it.
