Why I’m not going to Reading this year

3 04 2006

Primarily, we’re talking apathy. I always look forward to the day a Reading lineup is released because I love going. Unfortunately, the acts this year didn’t inspire me to sit at the PC clicking “refresh” until I got tickets, so instead while I was watching Never Mind the Buzzcocks (with Lauren Laverne!) the tickets sold out. Can’t seem to find it in myself to care. There’s still a chance I’ll decide to buy tickets off eBay or something, but to be honest if I don’t go I’m not going to get that upset about it.

When I’ve already got tickets for two Radiohead performances this year, it’s very hard to get upset about missing out on, er, Muse, I guess, and… well, that’s more or less it. There’s still plenty of time for lineup additions to make this a very dumb choice but given my musical preferences right now I’m not really expecting it to appeal that much more. Ben Folds at Reading? I don’t really see it happening.

(and, as ever, more comics reviews by me are up on NTS. While I get the feeling no-one’s actually reading them, I can’t deny it’s good practice and that I’m enjoying it. I suspect there may be some wider promotion in the near future, once there’s slightly more of a backlog built up.)
