Good review matey, I have been lambasted with abuse since our site slagged off this new Placebo album. Like you we are big Placebo fans and have been for many years however I find this album a very average release and heavily pumped by the Band and their associated PR machines. In my opinion this seems to be a collection of tracks that werent good enough for previous release and have been produced 'up' and in some cases 'down' to form a new collection. No memorable This picture, Taste in men or Nancy boy here and it left me feeling very disappointed in them. I always found a way to associated Placebo tracks to my own personal life events but not with this one - bought it, reviewed it and will probably file it away in my collection.

I agree with the overall assesment of your review allthough not your individual hit miss selections. It seems like Placebo have lost some of the fire and intensity that typified the build up of their collective work up to and including the BMM album. Sleeping with ghosts signaled the beginning of a softer and more varied songwriting approach but there was enough swagger to keep things rolling forward
and the enswing tour had a great deal of energy. Perhaps a different producer would have pushed for a stronger sounding album with more guitars fewer pauses
and faster build ups. Meds and infra red have the basic frenzied structure of early placebo classics but Dimitri Tikovoi's remix manages to strip enough layers of musical tempo and magnetism to almost totally fuck up both tracks. A weak Producer will destroy strong songs and not help mediocre ones. I expect the live versions of most meds tracks to sound stronger and more memorable than anything on this album.
