Bits & Torrents
3 04 2004Well, it’s hardly been hectic. The last time I was going to update, all I could think worth saying was that I got a bunch of post, including my latest cheque from Aqua (and Nancy Boy 1-Track Promo. Score.) which needed depositing, so I went into town, and then on the way back I went to the comic shop, but as is customary they didn’t actually have anything on the shelves yet, just stuck in big boxes on the floor. It’s like they don’t even want my custom.
However, today I bought myself a new comic box. It’s been on the horizon for a long time and we just had to go for it. It seems like they don’t sell a lot because it took quite a bit of scrambling about backstage to find one, but I’ve got one and tomorrow I’ll procrastinate by filling it up.
As for the weather, well… On Thursday, when I was walking around Oxford, it was a little less sunny but still warm enough. Then yesterday it was a bit colder, then just earlier this evening rain unlike any other starting hammering down. Rain around Easter reminds me of the floods a few years back, which I remember fondly. Seeing Leamington mostly underwater was pretty cool, as was standing on a bridge in Stratford with the water many feet above the usual level. The rain just now was kind of torrential though. Maybe it’s that global warming-induced climate change we’ve been expecting finally showing through.
I never did speak about Dawn of the Dead. It was a good film, kept well within the genre, though I prefer Zombies that overwhelm in sheer numbers rather than run full pelt like rabid beasts. Satisfyingly bleak ending, and as per convention didn’t use the term “Zombies” once. Nikki thought it was good too, which she wasn’t expecting, so maybe she’ll like Shaun of the Dead too, which we’re seeing on Friday. I also downloaded Commando yesterday. Classic 80s action from the current Governer of California. It also seems that the version I remember was actually a cut version, so I look forward to rewatching the whole thing at some point. If only there was an Arnie commentary to go with it. I admit that I actually like Arnie’s comedies as much as the action films. Twins, Kindergarten Cop, and yes, even Jingle All the Way. There’s something about an actor so clearly unable to portray anything other than a monosyllabic lug doing comedy that makes me laugh. Except Batman and Robin. That made me cry.
