The Friday Five #10

1 08 2003

Ah, good. Something meaty for a change! I was beginning to lose hope with this.

1. What time do you wake up on weekday mornings?
At the moment? 10:30 or so. That’s pretty much my average these days. That time affords me around 7 hours sleep which is more than adequate, especially considering I don’t actually do anything all day.

2. Do you sleep in on the weekends? How late?
Technically, no, because with no responsibility or commitments on weekdays, it doesn’t make a difference. I live a life of convenience. At Uni, I usually get an hour or so extra just because there’s usually been reasons to get up early in the week, and if nothing else, Nikki tends to get an extra hour or so, so I have no reason to get up. Having said that, on Sundays I normally don’t get up until about Midday, probably because Saturday nights are spent either out with friends or a later than usual spell on IRC.

3. Aside from waking up, what is the first thing you do in the morning?
Hmm. At the moment, I sit up, turn on the PC monitor (because I can do that without leaving the bed in this tiny, tiny room) kind of slump forward on the desk and get about checking e-mail and reading what I’ve missed on IRC. Mainly because it gets me to focus on something pretty fast and makes me wake up. In recent weeks I’ve been watching a Buffy episode immediately after that, but I’ve finished the series now so I’m not sure what to replace that with. Angel episodes, perhaps? Around then I’ll maybe text Nikki to say good morning and see how her day at work is going. At uni it’s quite similar, except I tend to read something first, or talk to Nikki when she’s there, before I get out of bed and turn on the PC.

4. How long does it take to get ready for your day?
It depends on circumstance. Yesterday because I had to take Mum to work, I was awake out of the door in about 10 minutes, though in a seriously wonky state and wit the understanding that I was coming back. At Uni, I allow myself 40 minutes to wake up, lie in, and get out of the door for a lecture at 9am when I have to actually get up for it. Now, because I don’t have anything to get up for usually, I wake up around 10:30, and I get dressed and washed at about Midday, though at this point it’s not for any specific reason, more I just feel I should be retaining some personal dignity and self-respect by at least forcing myself not to break the established social routine and stay in my bed clothes until circumstances force me otherwise (which, being fair, they probably wouldn’t most days…)

5. When possible, what is your favorite place to go for breakfast?
Let’s see. For Uni my breakfast would consist of a coke and twix at 11:00am, bought from the Wheatley SU shop. At home my breakfast would consist of nothing, though I might eat a snack of some kind before my first meal, which would be at about 5:00pm. Same at Uni. I don’t really eat breakfast. The last time I had anything close to breakfast, besides eating corn flakes at night, would be going to the Boiled Egg and Soldiers with Relly and Paul, which was 5 months ago to the day where I had a single piece of toast and can of coke. Now - I hate Wheatley, I don’t eat breakfast at Home, uni, or Nikki’s, so having considered that, my favourite place to go to breakfast can only logically be defined as a cafĂ© in Clapham that I’ve visited once. Interesting.
