Beginning of the end

Listen to that.

::Crickets chirp::

::Dog barks::

That is the sound of people NOT giggling nasally. That is the sound of housemates NOT spawning in the bathtub like mating frogs. That, friends and random weirdoes alike, is the sound of Debbie being gloriously gone FOREVER. I’m sure I’ll encounter her again one day, most likely as I speed past her on the road to success, but let’s not let that dull the moment. Next year she’ll be gone and her unjustified whinging will be a thing of the past.

As a final act of revenge, she gave away some of the plants Nikki and I bought.

To counterbalance, we kept her terracotta pots and the pair of her oven gloves that got burnt on the hob.

I think it’s obvious who’re the winners in this situation.

Astonishingly, I didn’t make an entry yesterday. Seems like I’ve been keeping an amazingly tight grip on updates for a change. I wonder if the quality is suffering, though. People always prefer the earlier work.

Well, today’s exam wasn’t hard. Ian and George came over in the morning and we stood around bleary eyed and wishing to be dead which Debbie and David began packing their stuff. We went off to the exam, did it, and came back. I don’t think I have to worry about not having passed any of the stuff this term.

And, well, that’s my second year done. I’m more than half way through the degree now (or, given that the first year doesn’t count towards grades, half way done). Nikki suggested a “Year 2″ retrospective entry, which I think I’ll do, tomorrow.

On the way back through Headington, we saw some “ARSON WARNING” signs put there by the police. As an exercise in poetic irony, we considered setting them on fire, however being all Computing students, we decided the amount of planning it’d take to set up a caper like that was probably far out of our abilities and decided, instead, to remain content to laugh at the idea.

Today, I finally accepted that I’m not going to be able to afford the Animatrix DVD for a while and downloaded a DivX. I say “Downloaded”, it’s still going. Bittorrent is nothing if not TERRIBLY SLOW. This will at least tide me over until I can get some fundage worked up. Interestingly, without trying at all I’ve got Mum and Dad with friends wanting minor websites made for them, so maybe this summer will see the leap into freelance web-page construction (I hesitate to use the term “design”, at least when I’m involved) that I keep hoping I’ll manage one day as an alternative to getting a real job. I saw that dailyinfo want someone to do a one-off piece of PHP work for them. I’ve inquired about it, but I’ll have to see if anything comes of it. If nothing else, it’d be fun to do.

So, I’ve got a couple of days until I go home. I’m not sure what to do in them. Certainly, I’ll finish Microserfs and begin Dante’s Comedy. Maybe I’ll get around to watching 28 Days Later, and I’m itching for a Fight Club viewing too. And then there are my comics.

Suddenly I realise I’m defining my life in terms of the media I feed through it.

Tomorrow I’ll have a productive day filled with high adventure, mystery and intrigue. Who knows what awaits around every corner? [More of the same? –ed.]

And while I’m making stuff up, I think tomorrow, I’ll win the lottery as well.

Dave (01:32:17) :

The earlier work of Hunt was way better than this new shit.
I know, because I was a fan way back when he was all underground. You little fucks have no idea what it was like back then: protests, drugs, sluts, knifings - yeah it was cool.

Hardcore.
