Re-Entry

1 02 2003

I have arrived back in Oxford. I forget actually if I ever noted here that I was going to London, but I did. Easyworld gig was memorable, if not especially good, per se. A short review will appear on the main site in time. We saw Steve Lamaq though, the utter godfather of indie. DIdn’t get him a chance to ask why he was fired though ;-)

So, just to run through recent events: Paul’s train to Oxford was late. I was late picking him up because of traffic. The Oxford Tube was late arriving, and the underground train we were on was delayed by a “Passenger Alarm”, which became an “Incident”, and which then became a “Passenger Illness”. All hopes of Horizon’s Dirty Bomb attack were dashed. Anyway, then the gig occurred, and afterwards I attended my first and quite possibly last “After-Show Party”. This consisted mainly of being in a large room with 60 people you don’t know. Oh, I met Jess after many months of having only known about her, much smaller in real life, but then nice enough for it. Also, at the Party, I finally got some faces to put to what were heretofore only names, such as Dave Wibberly the PR Guy, Doug the Manager, and soforth.

Following the Party, we went back to Paul and Relly’s across London in a Taxi-cab I feel I accurately described as “like ‘The Getaway’ only more dangerously driven.” Still, I saw a lot of Londonish things out the taxi window and enjoyed the sights.

The following morning, we went to the “Boiled Egg and Soldiers”, a nice café that I purchased a single slice of toast from, for 50p. I also got a drink, and, as a small piece of advice to any burgeoning businessmen out there - when you’re selling someone a Coca Cola for £1.25, you shouldn’t bring it to the table still *in* the 300ml can. Effectively charging about 90p for the rent of a glass doesn’t especially present an image of good-value.

After that, we went off around London, investigating record shops along the way for Easyworld things. I had planned to go to some comic shops but it was 3pm by the time we set off, and with the tube lines fucked I thought I’d give it a miss this time.

So, after an exhausting day, I returned to Oxford. To make this entry. Maybe I forgot stuff, in which case I’ll edit the entry, add it in and you’ll be none the wiser.

I’m just going to add this while I can. For an alternate take on the day’s events, you can read Relly’s blog entry here. It’s like a blog crossover - this certainly appeals to the comic geek in me. You don’t even have to buy both issues to understand the story! (A little comic humour there for anyone that way inclined ;-)

of course, my favourite bit about the rent of the glass is even more bittersweet, considering the glass is from ikea (we lent you one the same for no money at all) that costs less than 20p per glass.
Still, that’s London for you.
